An aerial view of the lighthouse

First lit in 1873, the towering Yaquina Head Lighthouse still serves as an active navigation aid over 143 years later, its beacon visible 19 miles out to sea. Make the 114 step climb up the spiral staircase to emerge onto an observation deck overlooking sheer sea cliffs and crashing waves from dizzying heights.

Tour the living quarters, browse exhibits in the interpretive center, and walk the surrounding headland trails for non-stop sea spray and views. Don’t miss descending into a cave carved out by the roiling ocean below the lighthouse, where you can watch surging water being sucked into a rocky channel.

Capture the iconic red-roofed lighthouse against the backdrop of the Pacific while learning about its fascinating history guiding ships to safety.

What You Need to Know: Yaquina Head Lighthouse is located 18 miles north of Newport, OR. The interpretive center and trails are free to explore.
